The Capital Region’s two congressmen are backing a bill to expand tax credits for vehicles powered by fuel cells—a plan that could boost a Latham manufacturer.

This morning, U.S. Reps. Paul Tonko (D-Amsterdam) and Christopher Gibson (R-Kinderhook) will visit Plug Power Inc. (Nasdaq: PLUG).

The pair will join Plug Power president Andrew Marsh to tout legislation aimed at bolstering the tax credits available for vehicles used to carry or tow materials.

Plug Power makes fuel cells that power a range of forklifts, so the new and expanded tax credits would be right up its alley.

Plug Power has been lobbying Congress for tax credits that cove the purchase of the entire forklift. Tonko’s bill, which Gibson has co-sponsored, appears to get the company closer to that goal.
