It’s no secret GM has been fine tuning hydrogen fuel cells at their Honeoye Falls plant, but the public never had a chance to see how it was developed.

Now, as they are doing at facilities across the country, GM gave the public a behind-the-scenes look at the technology behind the fuel cell during an open house Saturday.

“Everyone knows what is going on with that, but to see the work being done firsthand is something they don’t get a chance to see” Honeoye Falls Mayor Rick Milne said. “There is a lot of buzz about it.”

People can’t go inside the facility to see production, so GM brought the production outside with a new fuel cell Chevy Equinox to test drive.

“It’s unusually quiet.” said Ralph Jiacomi after his test drive. “The movement and sound stays constant throughout the whole experience.”

The fuel cell being developed the Honeoye Falls plant powers cars on hydrogen and leaves only water as exhaust.
