BMW has stated its intention to work together with General Motors on the development on new technologies.

“We're holding talks with GM on various new technologies,” its spokesman said, without disclosing any further details.

According to the weekly magazine WirtschaftsWoche in its latest edition, the two companies plan to cooperate in fuel cells, with GM sharing its research in that area in return for BMW putting up some of the funding.

Negotiations are at an advanced stage and the partnership could be officially announced after the Detroit Motor Show in mid-January, the magazine said.

BMW already signed a partnership agreement with Toyota earlier this month to co-develop new-generation batteries for electric and hybrid cars.
