A SHEFFIELD entrepreneur is looking for firms to take part in trials of hydrogen technology on their company vehicles.

Julian Mayston, from H2Cell Installations, wants to convert vehicles to use water as a secondary 'fuel,' using equipment developed by a company called Hydrotechnix.

Mr Mayston says the system can be fitted to conventional petrol and diesel-engined vehicles and there will be no cost to businesses taking part in the test, which will involve monitoring fuel consumption and checking vehicle emissions.

Hydrotechnix's system uses electricity generated by the engine to split water into hydrogen and oxygen.

The hydrogen and oxygen are then added to the normal mixture of fuel and air as it enters the engine.

The system's designers claim that it will not only decrease overall fuel consumption, but also reduce emissions and extend engine life by making engines cleaner and cooler.
