ReliOn, the leading provider of high reliability fuel cell solutions for backup and grid-support power applications, today announced a new patent issuance. Patent number 8,192,889 protects the novel architecture internal to ReliOn’s E-series product line and broadens ReliOn’s position as a leader in core fuel cell technology development.
Gary Flood, ReliOn’s president and CEO, commented, “One of ReliOn’s strengths is its ability to innovate in order to move fuel cell science to commercial reality. This new patent enables us to produce lower cost fuel cell products that are manufactured simply and utilize automated assembly, while retaining the robust, high reliability needed in the marketplace. As ReliOn’s fourth generation product line, the E-series fuel cell systems, offer customers a fuel cell power generator with no external balance of plant at a price point that represents savings in most business cases.”
Unlike many PEM fuel cell companies, ReliOn continues to develop and manufacture its own core fuel cell components. ReliOn’s fuel cell architectures are unique in that they do not use complicated bipolar plates or flow fields. The advancement in the E-series consists of a plate and plastic frame architecture which simplifies manufacturing and allows for advanced air-cooling and membrane management, increasing the durability and efficiency of the products. The E-series product line represents a significant generational cost reduction and power density improvement over previous products and enables industry leading turnkey power solutions for end customers.
