Is Bloom Energy Gearing up for an IPO?
The Bloom Box and Bloom Energy fuel cell technology has sparked interest in an IPO and stock symbol. However, Bloom Energy is a privately held and therefore you cannot as an average investor invest in this technology. That being said sometime in the future there could be an IPO. It’s important to keep informed and watch the news for those sorts of updates.
The Bloom Energy fuel cell uses natural gas to create electricity that is cleaner and cheaper than energy created by the coal powered grid. If you look at the fine print, the cost savings take into consideration lucrative tax incentives for alternative and clean energy – without which the savings is quite minimal. In all actuality, energy may be more than the grid when discounting the tax incentives.
On top of the cost, there’s also the risk of a fuel cell going bad and having to plug back into the grid. This could be inconvenient to some.
Despite all that, the technology is revolutionary. Currently, it’s better suited for large businesses with massive energy needs. It’s more of a supplement to grid power than a replacement thereof, but over the years that may change.
