FuelCell Energy says CFO resigns effective immediately

* CFO Joseph Mahler resigns effective immediately

* Promotes Michael Bishop to CFO

FuelCell Energy Inc said its Chief Financial Officer Joseph Mahler resigned effective immediately to pursue other opportunities.

The Danbury, Connecticut-based company promoted Michael Bishop, vice president and controller, to CFO.

FuelCell Energy said Bishop has been with the company for eight years, responsible for its financial reporting and accounting operations.

The company said Mahler was senior vice president, CFO, treasurer and corporate secretary since 1998.

FuelCell Energy produces fuel cell units, which combine hydrogen and oxygen electro-chemically to produce electricity, that can be used to power telecom towers and households in remote areas where grid power is not available.

FuelCell Energy posted a narrower-than-expected second-quarter loss helped by a growing demand for ultra-clean fuel cells.
