Ceres Power Holdings said it received 'CE' safety approval for its wall-mounted fuel cell Combined Heat and Power product to be installed and operated in occupied homes as part of the company's field trials under the residential CHP programme with British Gas.

According to the company, the CE certification process was conducted by Europe's independent fuel cell technology and gas appliance certification specialist Kiwa Gastec, based in the Netherlands. Ceres Power has received confirmation from Kiwa Gastec that the CHP product has satisfied the requirements for the Gas Appliance Directive and that the formal CE certificate is expected to be issued shortly following completion of the administrative process.

Further, as part of the certification process, Ceres Power also worked with Kiwa Gastec and other notified bodies to satisfy the associated requirements of the Low Voltage Directive and Electromagnetic Compatibility for a residential CHP product.

Ceres Power expects deployment of CHP products into people's homes to start in January 2011 as part of commercial field trials.
