Scribner Associates, Inc. (Southern Pines, North Carolina, USA) introduces the Model 857 Redox Cell Test System, the world’s first fully-integrated, turn-key instrument engineered specifically for redox flow battery testing.
Redox flow batteries are similar to traditional rechargeable batteries with the exception that the reactants are housed in external reservoirs and are delivered as-needed through the reactor cell or stack. Flow batteries are an emerging technology for large-scale and distributed energy storage. The power capacity of flow batteries is dictated by the stack size and is independent of the energy capacity which is determined by the reactant concentration and volume.
The Model 857 Redox Cell Test System is designed for research and development of all redox flow battery chemistries. The system includes independent, non-metallic anolyte and catholyte liquid reactant handling and temperature control. The core of the system is a complete electronics package to control and measure all system parameters such as electrolyte flow rate and temperatures, while the integrated high-current potentiostat allows for cell charge/discharge cycling and performance characterization. Each unit also equipped with an impedance analyzer for Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS) and real-time High Frequency Resistance (HFR) measurement. Additional features include auxiliary voltage inputs for half-cell electrode and electrochemical state-of-charge (SOC) measurement. Operation of the test system is through custom FlowCellTM software for easy experimentation and system control.
Scribner Associates is a leading developer of cost-effective, high-performance analytical instrumentation for electrochemistry. Scribner’s 857 Redox Flow Cell Test System compliments the company’s suite of sub-kilowatt turn-key and customizable fuel cell test equipment for low and high-temperature PEMFC, DMFC, SOFC and others, used by scientists and engineers around the globe. The company’s specialization in equipment for single cell and small stack testing allows it to focus on advanced electrical diagnostic methods and system control parameters.
